Radical Self Love at the RedCat

My Show Radical Self Love will be presented at the RedCat on March 24th, 2023. This show premiered last year at The Kitchen in NYC, and I’m really excited to bring it over to the west coast.

This show will feature a lot of music from radical acceptance and some new works. YATTA will be opening for me with music from their beautiful new project. If you’re in LA around then would love to see you there.

All info can be found here

Notes on the show:
“Radical Self-Love is an evening-length work written and designed by Joy Guidry, drawing inspiration from the work of Sonya Renee Taylor (@sonyareneetaylor ) , who has defined radical self-love as “its own entity, a lush and verdant island offering safe harbor for self-esteem and self-confidence.” As Guidry states, “much of my music-making right now is keenly focused on a radical reimagining of spaces, sonic, and communal. At the center of imagination is radical self-care: creating a world for yourself that allows the expansion of other worlds.”
While these music offerings represent a range of musical idioms and methodologies–from improvisation and graphic scores to multimedia and gospel–the uniting principle for Guidry is a focus on the importance of affirmation, validation, and self-care.

the Industry OperaLab 2022

Will be joining the Industry Opera Company on their 2022 lab, on bassoon.

“Curated by The Industry’s artistic directors, Ash Fure, Malik Gaines, and Yuval Sharon, LAB will feature three creative teams in a week-long workshop of new material by Mariah Garnett, Richard Kennedy, and H Sinno. Moving fluidly between the opera and visual art worlds, this year’s LAB artists explore challenging migrations, revolutionary insurrections, and the body-politics of voice. Audiences can witness all three works-in-progress in an all-day mini-festival on December 17 at LATC in Downtown Los Angeles.”
